( feATure sTory ) Francia Holliday Albrecht The Francia Holliday Albrecht Dance Performance Studio is the premiere studio space within the Center for Dance and Theatre at Guzzetta Hall. Because of Francia’s continuing generosity, the Albrecht Studio has recently been enhanced with a full lighting grid, comprehensive theatrical lighting system and portable lighting board. In addition to making the Albrecht Studio a full-feature performance venue, these enhancements allow UA students, faculty, and guest choreographers to work under theatre lighting conditions as they refine their directing and choreographic works. These enhancements also provide theatre tech and lighting design students with enhanced opportunities to advance their techniques and experiment with new and innovative creative solutions. Also, the studio’s state-of-the-art recording capabilities enable students to cut between camera angles while streaming performances via the Internet, broadcast them on television, and record them for future review and distribution. The Albrecht Dance Performance Studio Receives Updates Studio is in constant use. Regularly, students fill the bleachers to watch their peers and guest artist rehearse, perform, and showcase their work. “Francia’s generosity impacts each of our dance students every day,” says Neil Sapienza, director of the UA School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration. “The recent enhancements to the Francia Holliday Albrecht Dance Studio have revolutionized how dance is taught and learned, and each year the Francia Albrecht Scholarship provides opportunities for deserving students to participate in our dance program. Our students know Francia not only as that special lady who has provided unprecedented support for our program, but also as their number one fan who attends every concert and pays tribute to their artistic accomplishments with enthusiastic applause.” Editor’s Note: On March 13, Francia Albrecht will be the guest of honor at Pointe to the Future 2010, a benefit for the UA Dance Institute. The event at the Stage Door of E.J. Thomas Hall on campus, will feature a dinner, oral and silent auctions, and performances by Dance Institute students.
